head to head

A feature length documentary film following six women who experience blows to their self-image after unexpectedly losing their hair because of Alopecia, Lupus or chemotherapy. Cancer and autoimmune diseases disproportionately affect young women and women of color. Among the subjects is the film’s director, who sets out on a five-year journey to tell their stories while grappling with her own identity and what it means to be authentic. Although they all experience subsequent mental health, relationship, financial, and social impacts, the film’s subjects individually cope and recover from these challenges in dramatically different ways.

  • Josie has a diversity of skills that she’s not afraid to use, which is instrumental when it’s an all hands on deck situation. She became my other half during Head to Head, stepping up to help with whatever I needed in the moment: storytelling to post-production and marketing, while learning on the fly how to craft and execute a community impact campaign. She was a constant source of inspiration, energy and encouragement at the end of a long, multi-year production.
